COMPARISON OF MACHINE UTILIZATION TIME AND PERFORMANCE FOR ROADHEADER AND IMPACT HAMMER IN KADIKOY-KARTAL METRO TUNNELS (ISTANBUL)
Abstract
Drilling and blasting is the oldest excavation method in mining and tunnelling applications especially in hard rock conditions. But in recent year, the application of roadheaders and impact hammers in hard rock conditions has increased considerably in both civil and mining engineering fields. The prediction of machine utilization time and determining performance plays an important role in the time scheduling of the tunnelling projects. The tunnels of the Kadikoy-Kartal Metro are under construction. This paper summarizes the construction methods of the Kadikoy-Kartal Metro tunnels and the performance of the roadheader and impact hammer. At the same time, machine utilization time was compared for roadheader and impact hammer for Kozyatagi Station. Average uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) for roadheader (402 HP) 132 MPa, for impact hammer (143 HP) 58.3 MPa. UCS was obtained from daily face blocks in laboratory. The result of this study show that machine utilization time for roadheader 28.2 \% and for impact hammers 13.7 \%.
