Abstract

A modern feature of websites' creation aside from the PHP scripting language is the use of a database. It is acknowledged that PHP offers the possibility of an advantageous structure for the source code, yet its real capacity is highlighted when the programming language works together with a database. Among these databases one can enumerate MySQL, Oracle or PostgreSQL and the list can be easily extended. The PHP language has predefined functions and native connectivity with the above-mentioned databases. The current paper focuses on the databases created with MySQL taking into account the popularity, the support and its free-of-charge character. Currently on the web there are loads of sites not developed other than HTML therefore there is no database to stock and provide the information when requested. The mainstream today indicates a movement of these websites towards a database due to the numerous advantages provided. The case when a database was designed to be implemented the data are easier to edit or add and the articles that can be translated into new pages without the intervention of the user to the source code, either in HTML, CSS or PHP. Regarding the disadvantages, these are linked to the implementation costs for database solutions, the time consumed by the transformation of the static content into dynamic pages, these ones requiring integration with instruments for data management. Aspects related to the integration of a MySQL database in a website construction using the PHP language are detailed and analysed.
