Abstract

There are selected regions with a certain quality of a situation or a tendency of changes of environmental components. The significantly changes, in these areas are observed at soils, as the basic component of environment at which is man biologically contacted. The significantly chemical degradation of soils - acidification and contamination of soils with heavy metals - in loaded regions – the middle Spis region are showed. The middle Spis region is area at Slovak republic with deteriorated or heavily deteriorated environment in environmental regionalization. Soil contamination by heavy metals is especially caused by ore mining, processing and treatment. Systematic monitoring of soils contamination with heavy metals in such loaded areas is necessary. Geographical information systems (GIS) belong to environmental monitoring systems. They offer tools and methods by which is possible to present a development of changes at the quality and at the contamination of soils finding at surroundings of the source as well as to define areas for revitalisation. Soil samples from the middle Spis region were collected to determine of the influence of anthropogenic load on bioavailability of metals from soil. According to obtaining results there were made a suitable database. By synchronization of the made database with GIS well-arranged transparent maps were created. The computer programme Arc View GIS was used as a suitable programme package for the selected area.
