Abstract

The present paper aims to investigate the opening up of the forest complex Maries -Limenaria of the island of Thassos in Greece and its environmental impacts. Firstthe study of the conditions of the forest road network of the mountain forestcomplex of Maries-Limenaria was done, then the assessment of the environmentalimpacts of the opening up of the above-mentioned complex, by investigating theintensity of the above impacts on the natural environment and the ability of theforest ecosystem to absorb these impacts of the opening up projects. Finally, basedon the results conclusions are drawn, and solutions are proposed. With thecompletion of the research in forest complex of Maries - Limenaria favorableconditions will be created to influence, facilitate and improve substantially: a. Thecarrying out of the skidding of wood with modern instruments and new methods, bothin terms of silvicultural goals, and technical requirements. b. The creation for boththe skidding and for the transport of wood favorable conditions for technical andeconomical point of view, which substantially affect the extent and intensity of theforest operation. c. The better performance of forest operations. d. The movement offorest personnel and forest workers for better implementation, surveillance, andprotection of the forest. e. The transportation of materials and equipment forcarrying out any work of afforestation etc. f. The increase in tourism and theexploitation of sites appropriate for recreation.
