FOOD SAFETY - AN AMBITIOUS GOAL, BUT DISTANT
Abstract
Globalization was the solution for achieving high rates of economic growth to wind underdevelopment. Throughout history, agri culture has grown in momentum of population growth and market expansion. Ov er the past 25 years, performance in agriculture has contributed to overall agri cultural GDP by 2% per year, faster than population growth, which was only 1.6% per year . Agriculture is the very heart of trade negotiations promised the development cycle, to the extent that about 75% of the world's poor live in rural areas and their income from agriculture. Considered appropriate for developed countries, by the consecration of new markets, biofuels production has grown because of tariff protectionism and generous subsidies. Increasing demand for biofuels has driven prices of basic commodities, gene rating multiple global controversy. The dramatic increase in food prices by 75% - far above estimates - led to increased attention to a more complex cha llenge, namely that of solving hunger and malnutrition, the UN Millennium Deve lopment goal "forgotten." "Hunger and malnutrition are caused not only results in pov erty." (Zoellick, 2008). In this paper we performed an insight on some important economic sectors and thematic areas (agriculture, trade, migratio n) by analyzing how they are reflected on socio-economic and demographic imbalances. Encouraging developments in the G8 and emerging economies suggest the possibility of progress in the liberalization of international trade, and establishing and preserving an open trad ing system should become part of a New Covenant for a Global Food Policy. Emphasize that poverty and all forms of its manifestation depends on each country's own conditions, such as: the population situation and location paupere and reforms for achieving the MDGs.
