Abstract

Air pollution is considered one of the most significant environmental and public health challenges in the Mitrovica region, primarily influenced by industrial activities, urban traffic, fossil fuel combustion, and various factors associated with industrial waste. Real-time monitoring of air pollutants and environmental parameters is essential for identifying high-risk areas and supporting environmental protection policies. This study presents the development and implementation of an intelligent air quality monitoring system based on the BQ 1.0 platform and Internet of Things (IoT) technology. The designed system utilizes sensors for measuring key environmental parameters, including temperature, relative humidity, particulate matter (PM) concentration, pollutant gases, and other environmental indicators. The BQ 1.0 platform enables real-time data transmission through communication networks, providing data storage, processing, and visualization through a cloud-based platform. Through IoT technology, continuous communication is established between sensors, the microcontroller, and the central server, thereby improving the efficiency of environmental data collection and analysis. Preliminary results indicate that the BQ 1.0 system provides operational stability, low implementation costs, and strong potential for decentralized air pollution monitoring in the urban and industrial areas of Mitrovica. The generated data can be accessed and analyzed in real time through mobile applications, enabling environmental condition assessment, identification of pollution sources, and the development of early warning systems for exceedances of permitted air pollution levels. This research contributes to the advancement of intelligent environmental monitoring and promotes the application of IoT technologies in air quality management and public health protection.
