Abstract

This paper deals with disinfection of drinking water at пїЅAquatim S.AпїЅ. The disinfection plant is part of an investment plan to provide conformation with the Romanian Law 485/2002 concerning drinking water quality and European Union Water Frame Directive. The new facility employs modern techniques of storage, dosage, injection and neutralization of chlorine. Under these circumstances, the risk of chlorine leakage decreased and increased the accuracy of chlorine dosage. The regulation and control of the process is carried out by 4 automation-monitoring close-loops according to the deviation, the output signals are free residual chlorine after 30 minutes contact time and water flow rate. The accomplishment of the new chlorination plant provides consumers protection by supplying good quality water, operation under totally secure conditions and environmental protection. The chlorination plant is highly flexible and disinfection can be carried out according to water quality in order to maintain the formation of chlorinated organic compounds at a minimum. An extra safety for consumers is provided by the final close-loop that maintains the free chlorine concentration in the supplied drinking water constant as against the set reference and, on the other hand, offers the possibility of a quick change of the free chlorine concentration. After the start up of the plant, chlorine consumption decreased by about 33%
