ROAD TRAFFIC NOISE AND AIR POLLUTION. AN INTEGRATIVE APPROACH
Abstract
Until now, in Romania, approaches to noise and air pollution are strictly different. For example, the noise pollution assessment by mathematical modeling is the approach by law. This is valid both in the preliminary stage of noise mapping and at the final stage of the action plan of noise abatement measures applicable according the Directive 2002/49 /EU [1]. For air quality assessment, a different approach is legislated. In this case, a monitoring -based analysis of indices the specified is carried out and the action plan on air pollution abatement measures shall be based on a modeling matrix applicable in accordance with Directive 2008/50/EU [2]. We can conclude that an integrated assessment of noise and air pollution is difficult to made according with the present legislation. Nevertheless, starting from the latest calculation methods which are similar for both pollution the before mentioned analysis can be done, but, the model validation is still challenging. We can mentioned here that comparing the measuring analysis with mathematical models it can be found some advantages and disadvantages which we present in the paper. In the case of mathematical modelling one of the problems of receiver noise is that the actual noise level is higher than the one calculated because the time measurement occurs in addition to the main traffic noise source and other parasitic ambient noise sources such as industrial noise, trams etc. In addition, integrating the two pollution noise and air into a single web interactive map would make it possible to assess the real-world quality of life and we performed a case study for road.
