CONCENTRATION OF KAYABAЕћI-TRABZON (TURKEY) CU-ZN ORE BY FLOTATION
Abstract
In this study, flotation concentration of Trabzon-KayabaЕџД± Massive Sulphide ore was investigated. The effects of particle size, reagent concentration (collector and depressant) and agitation speed on the recovery of copper were studied. The results have shown that the ore responded poorly to concentration by flotation with low efficiency of seperation of copper minerals from sphalerite and pyrite. Changing the flotation conditions i.e. decreasing particle size to >99\% passing 38 $\mu$m or increasing the concentration of collector and depressant did not produce the desired effect on the separation and recovery of copper. This could be attributed mainly due to i) the incomplete liberation of the mineral phases present as the mineralogical examination of the copper concentrate produced revealed and ii) probably the inadvertent activation of sphalerite by copper ions released during the conditioning and flotation period. High grade copper concentrates were produced only at the expense of low recoveries (e.g. 41.4\% Cu at 26\% recovery). Production of a bulk Cu-Zn concentrate rather than separate Cu and Zn concentrates appeared to be more suitable option for the treatment of the ore.
