Abstract

Construction and demolition materials are generated when existing buildings are demolished. The concrete / masonry recycled aggregates can be used within trench reinstatement works. The aim of conducted experiment is to find a methodology for evaluating the effect of backfill compaction works via dynamic penetration tests (DPT). The first part of paper describes construction of testing pit located in research center AdMaS (Czech Republic). The paper continues then with the description of compaction and testing procedure of compacted material. Procedure consisted of compaction of recycled waste using vibrating plate followed-up by the conduction of DPT test of such material. Next step was consecutive measurement of bulk density and moisture of backfill during excavation of experimental trench. The nuclear density gauge and the membrane densitometer were used for this purpose. Whole this procedure was conducted repeatedly on different level of compaction. Paper finally presents statistical processing and evaluation of measured data. The result is the comparison of the suitability of different methods of measurement used to evaluate wet bulk density. The results also figure out the relationships between the compaction energy, soil density and the number of blow counts measured during DPT test.
