SMALL PARTS MARKING - THE STUDY OF THE LASERS USAGE
Abstract
In manufacturing conditions marking of the parts is used many times. Marking is necessary for storage, transportation, in keeping records in plants or in the exploitation by the customers. In each situation mark given to part is necessary for identification, verification of the position correctness, etc. Marking is often carrying on by bonding the labels or painting. These methods, even though in common practice have some disadvantages: the label can be broken or destroyed and paintings can be scraped off. Sometimes labelling is impossible. For parts which are operate in liquids, aggressive atmospheres different methods should be used. In the paper the usage of the lasers is presented dedicated for durable, permanent marking of the parts. The experiment was conducted and the parts made from different materials and of different shapes were marked. The microscopic observations of the field of the laser beam impact were fulfilling in the purpose to find or exclude the possibility of local changes of the material structure or appearing of unwanted oxides. It can be said that the state of the surface depends on the laser beam parameters. Additionally, the tests of the marking on the very small parts were conducted. On these parts marking by label bonding or painting is impossible. Authors described the favourable laser parameters for precise and permanent marking of the parts. Laser marking can be successfully used in production plants in which one of the part feature and quality is durability. It is one of the prerequisite to say that lasers are eco-friendly method of marking.
