THE LEVEL OF MUNICIPAL WASTE WATER TREATMENT VS. AVAILABLE FINANCIAL MEANS FROM THE RESOURCES OF EU

Abstract

The increasing of life quality of population and the environmental protection through the achievement of “good water situation” is one of primary tasks resulting from the Directive on Water No. 2000/60/EC of the European parliament and the Council. To accomplish the conditions and to achieve the European standards in the area of drinking water supply and disposal with municipal wastewater, Slovakia can use the finances from European Union since 2000. The article discusses the ways and organization of municipal wastewater disposal, describes level of drinking water supply and level of municipal wastewater draining and its treatment in Slovakia and in selected EU countries. The article deals with issues of accessibility and use of the financial instruments from internal resources and from the resources of European Union, which are used to finance the projects with target to achieve the requested standard in this area.
