SMART CONTROL OF CO2 HUFF AND PUFF PROCESS IN DUAL POROSITY RESERVOIR

Abstract

The analysis of naturally fractured reservoirs is very comprehensive because of their structure, which includes the matrix of high porosity and low permeability as well as fractures of low porosity and high permeability. The situation is more complex in gas-condensate reservoirs in which the condensate accumulates in the fractures, what prevents them to maintain their base role as the most permeable conduit for the hydrocarbon flow. One of the most successful process to enhance recovery from dual porosity reservoirs is CO2 Huff and Puff process in which a single well alternates between CO2 injection, soaking, and production. Operating parameters depend on specific reservoir characteristics, hence their proper determination is difficult. Therefore, it seems to be reasonable to implement the artificial intelligence to determine the appropriate cycle design. The idea of this paper is to create intelligent control system, the aim of which is to enhance recovery factor from the naturally fractured reservoir. In this works a new algorithm were developed, which determines optimal values for design parameters of CO2 Huff and Puff process. The proposed algorithm is based on the advanced computer modeling methods combined with reservoir simulators. This paper presents results which indicate that the developed method ensures intelligent control of CO2 Huff and Puff process in dual porosity reservoir and improves its efficiency.
