Abstract

Jiu Valley mining area is one of Romania where currently exploiting a coal deposit, which has important reserves of balance that can ensure beneficiaries' needs (CET Paroseni and CET Mintia) over a period of several decades. Structural changes that have occurred in the Romanian economy since 1989 have generated, but layoffs / redundancies collective personnel reorganization / activity restrictions in the mining units and the closure of some mines with no prospects of viability. All this led to a sharp economic decline of the region, becoming a very publicized both locally and regionally. Currently in the Jiu Valley mining basin of operating a processing plant and four mines, considered viable, but these with an uncertain future, and three others are in various stages of closure. Coal production comes from these mines barely reaches 1.3 million tons per year. Number of employees in mid 2015 to Branch Mining Division (SDM) of the Hunedoara Energy Complex was 4659, and the total population of the Jiu Valley after the 2011 census is 120 734 inhabitants. Based on the belief and the belief that decision-makers at local, regional and national level will not abandon this wonderful mountainous area and will have the wisdom to maintain energy security of the country and using coal fossil solid at producing electricity and heat, and he proposed to make a detailed analysis/contribution /role that I could have the Jiu Valley mining to sustainable development of the future of this region.
