Abstract

Food biotechnology is one of the green and fast developing segment of the industry among the others dealing with renewable plant raw materials processing and new functional food production to improve human health in deteriorating environmental situation. Annually, the number of studies aimed at proving the prebiotic properties of certain substances or compositions is increased, which leads to a huge accumulation of scientific information. The divergence in techniques for prebiotic activity assessment cause the fact that these data are fragmented and not systematized. Previously, «On-line Prebiotic Activity Research Database» (ODRAP) was created which allows storing and searching for the necessary information about new prebiotic substances and their activity. The current aim is to allow substantive researchers in this area to input their experimental data. The updated version of the ODRAP are presented in this article. The new version of the database allows the registered user to input research data online. The registration algorithm and the functionality of data input into the database were developed and described. The ODRAP is available free of charge to the public and it is aimed at providing users around the world with up-to-date information from publications on prebiotic properties of new and studied substances. Quantitative values of attributes, experimental conditions, methods for evaluating prebiotic activity, and information about publications are available for input. The convenience of web access is that the user can admission the database regardless of the user's geographic location.
