Abstract

Sedimentary analysis was based on formati ons of inferior Molasse which belong to Burdigalian and Badenian, being performed in representative natu ral claddings from Prahova, Romanian area. Complete successions of Variegated Formation and Globigerina – bearing Tuffs and Marls Formation may be followed in V. Mare – Alunis and Slanic–Piatra Verde Quarry (Prahova). The Variegated Formation is mostly ruditic– arenitic at its base, grading into a silty–lutitic sequence at the top. It mainly consists of conglomerates and micro-conglomerates, gr ay–blackish, sometimes reddish micaceous silty marls, gray or red siltstones fine-grained sandstones and sands. The gypsum intercalations are frequently. Regarding on assembly, sequences on facies, delimited based on some erosion discontinuities or non-erosion may be grouped in mezzo- sequences which are characterized by a rhythmic alternation of petrofacieses of type sandstone–siltit–marl and divided by surfaces of major discontinuity. Majority of mezzo-sequences have the tendency to develop of type “ finning–upward”. The Globigerina – bearing Tuffs and Marls Formatio n consists of dacitic tuffs and cineritic marls, greenish-bluish with intercalations of fine sandstones. It is a very good cartographic mark. At Piatra Verde, on north-w estern versant, the limit with variegated formation is clearly marked. It consists of granofacies lutitic, fi ne dominated by grey marls, tufacee and greenish tuffs. Rare interc alations of thin arenite, sands and fine sandstones are present. There are very well remarkable, even macroscopic, the globigerines. Associated also in couples and in succession of terms, litons form normal or inverse micro-sequences which were grouped in separate mezzo-sequences through erosion discontinuities. The m ezzo-sequences are of type „ finning- upward”. The main source of supply was tall orogenic pass which supply big volumes of different clastic rocks, as turbidite and flows in mass. Lower Miocene begins with a crisis of salinity installed on background of limitations the connection between extra-Carpathians basin range and neighbor ranges and evolution toward a basin with restrictive circulation. In the basin are powerful felt influences of ne ighbor land characterized by high energy of relief and which supply a rich and varied sedimentary material. Locally, for short intervals of time there are re trieved conditions of sediment ation of supratidal type. Terminal Burdigalian evolutes in conditions of a restrictiv e brackish sedimentary basin, with frequent ingressions of sea waters, in conditions of small depth and fluctuant salinity. Middle Miocene was accumulated in an environment of sedimentation, marine strictly, of water with small depth - “ shallow-water”, nearby sources of terrigenous contribution, with sediments predominant fine, demonstrating a low energy of basin. On assembly it may appreciate an evolution of the basin in epicontinental marine conditions with corresponding depths of a shelf.
