Abstract

Excessive iron causes hygienic and technical defects in the supply of drinking and service water. Even small iron concentrations can cause excessive bacterial proliferation, which, from a hygienic point of view, adversely affects the properties of water, such as turbidity, color, taste. In the case of small water sources, it is not appropriate to use demanding technological assemblies. Adsorption to a suitable adsorption material is most commonly used for water treatment. Compared to synthetic zeolites, the affordable adsorbent material is natural zeolite. An important property of zeolite minerals, due to their unique properties, is the ability to adsorb and ion exchange. The aim of the study was to investigate the recovery of ferric ions from solutions by adsorption on natural zeolite - clinoptilolite. The experiments were aimed at reducing the concentration of ferric ions from model solutions by the static adsorption method. The paper contains results of the adsorption kinetics measurements of ferric cations from aqueous solutions. The equilibrium concentrations were used to calculate the sorption characteristics, which belong to the basic input datas in the mathematical models of the transport of monitored substances in water. Adsorption kinetics are particularly important in the design and operation of potable and process water treatment plants as well as wastewater treatment.
