Abstract

The region in question is located in northeastern Bulgaria, 2.8 km southeast of the village of Balgarevo, Kavarna municipality, in the protected picturesque area "Zelenka". The study area is part of a coastal zone with a length of 2.5-3.0 km, where several descending springs are established. During the mapping in September 2018 in the studied area a zone of groundwater discharge was established in the slope at an absolute elevation of 36 m. Water from this area flows down the slope, forming a scenic waterfall. These waters are concentrated at the base of the slope and drain through a metal pipe under the path to the fishing pier. At the mouth of this metal pipe in September 2018, monitoring of flow, temperature, pH and water sampling for the ionic composition of water was started. Due to the difficult terrain, the spatial location and depth of the water level of the spring are determined by geophysical measurements based on changes in the electromagnetic field of the geological environment. The purpose of the article is to present the results of the monitoring performed within 2018-2019, and for this period three samples were taken and analyzed to determine the ionic composition of the water. The sampling took place in the spring, summer and autumn of 2019. Flow, temperature and hydrogen reaction (pH) were measured seven times during the monitoring period. The established flow rate of the spring for this period varies in the range from 1.1 to 3.0L/s, which characterizes it to springs with average flow rate. The water from the spring is classified as hydrocarbonate - calcium - magnesium - sodium, which is typical for other springs in the area with a predominance of hydrocarbonate anions in the water. An assessment of the water from the spring for its use for water supply of the settlements in the region has been made.
