Abstract

According to the European Environment Agency, soil is involved in providing more than 90% of the total production related to human nutrition, animal feed, textile fibers and fuels, while also providing the raw material for all kinds of other related activities, such as horticulture and construction. In order to monitor soil quality, it is necessary: common analyzes for all types of soils (with soil samples in disturbed and undisturbed structure) and typical soil analyzes (for soils: unsaturated with basic cations, saturated with basic cations, containing soluble salts and potentially polluted soils). The set of physical and geographical conditions of Romania presents a wide diversity, which is reflected in the main landforms found: the plains, the hills, the mountains, and a main result is the variation of some characteristics, such as: the altitude, the slope of the land, the way of use, the edaphone and the properties in relation to their quantity and quality. Limiting factors of soil quality: these are the parameters that can influence the quality class of agricultural land, among which we mention: the thickness of the fertile soil layer; soil drainage; soil texture; parental material; slope, erosion, floodability, altitude, nutrient content. In order to have crop plants and healthy harvests, but also to prevent soil pollution, it is necessary to monitor the quality of the cultivated soils.
