Abstract

Metakaoline is a relatively new pozzolanic additive, obtained by calcination of kaolin clay at relatively low temperatures. Themselves pozzolanic additives are known for a very long time. Currently, there is interest to pozzolanic materials again, because their usage allows reducing the total environmental impact and cost of cement. The influence of metakaoline on hydration and hardening of cement was studied. The usage of metakaoline as the additive to cement composition increases the strength of cement stone. Beside it improves the frost and corrosion resistance of cement stone reducing its porosity, which opens up new opportunities for use of additives based on metakaoline. Metakaoline allows to replace part of cement in the composition of cementitious materials, to produce high-quality dry mixes, mortar, concrete and others materials for example, plaster, putty, self-leveling compounds. The study the effect of metakaoline on the properties of tile adhesives showed the possibility to change their composition thanks the partial replacement of the polymer by metakaolin. Carried out research on the replace of polymer microfiber by metakaoline in repair dry mixes showed that it does not deteriorate their properties. Therefore, metakaoline can be used as an alternative to polymer fibers in the composition of repair mixtures.
