ANALYSIS OF GEODETIC DATA FOR INVESTIGATING POLAR MOTION
Abstract
Theoretical and experimental investigations have been made to study the polar motion based on the IERS (International Earth Rotation Service) solution. A set of 9 mathematical models is proposed to examine the time series of polar motion. We have proved by statistical tests that the ARMA (2,1) model is the “best” one of the proposed set of competing models. Estimates have been obtained of the spectral characteristics by investigating the cyclic polar motion variations. Criteria are applied to assess the adequacy of the models.
