ASSESSMENT AND PROGNOSIS OF ATMOSPHERIC POLLUTION CAUSED BY HOUSEHOLD WASTE LANDFILLS
Abstract
At present, the issue of waste management is becoming more acute because of increased quantity and diversity of waste, as well as because of its more and more pronounced negative impact on the environment. The current paper showcases a study carried out at a compliant household waste landfill where the following were monitored: quality of air containing wind driven suspensions, gases coming from the warehouse surface or from trapping and burning methane resulted from landfill?s cells as well as odorants released into the atmosphere in landfill area. This study provides important information regarding data collection of parameters required by Law 104/2011 on air quality. Monitoring of air quality parameters was carried out by using the environmental auto-laboratory, endowment of INCD INSEMEX Petro?ani, over a period of three months, respectively January, February and May 2020. Incorrect waste management can result in a major impact on the environment and population health. Therefore, it is important to assess air quality in the vicinity of landfills to avoid potential danger of polluting the area. The results showed that observing the technologies required for a compliant landfill, respectively, sorting, composting and depositing a mineral layer after each deposit of waste in cells leads to protection of the environment by releasing small concentrations of pollutants into the atmosphere.
