STRATEGY OF ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY OF THE SLOVAK REPUBLIC UNTIL 2030 - AN EFFECTIVE TOOL FOR COMBATING WASTE?
Abstract
Global climate change and resources depletion are the main reasons why it is necessary to constantly seek innovative approaches to the green economy. The 21st century economy should be a "green" economy, represented by repeated and sustainable use of resources. At the same time, the impact of environmental problems has an increasing impact on the economy or health and the quality of life of the population. In Slovakia, one of the biggest environmental problems is mainly the issue of waste management. While the municipal waste recycling rate is one of the lowest in the European Union, land filling is still dominated as a form of waste management. That is why the new Environmental Policy Strategy until 2030, which represents Slovakia's strategic environmental policy for the next 10 years, has also been approved. It follows and supports the policy of the European Union, which declared war on the so-called disposable plastic. Among other things, it also focuses on waste management as one of the key environmental indicators. The aim of this paper is to analyse the state of waste management in the Slovak Republic at present with a focus on recycling and land filling, as well as to review and evaluate the new environmental strategy in this area.
