CRITICAL POINTS OF PRESURIZED ENCLOSURE FOUND WITH CFD - AN EXAMPLE
Abstract
In the paperwork is exposed a practical way for establishing critical points position in a pressurized enclosure by using the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation. It is known that for complex inner structures of pressurized enclosures it's very difficult to precisely establish the position of critical points. Those critical points are points where the concentration of the test gas will reach at the latest to the desired value of concentration in the process of testing. In the first part of the paper were presented the explosion risks and pressurized enclosure as type of protection. Also, in this part were underlined some specific features and advantages for this type of protection. The easiest way to provide conformity against the provisions of the ATEX Directive is to use the harmonized standards under this directive. In case of electrical equipment, the harmonized standards in the EN 60079 series are used. In the second part was proposed and presented the simulation model for obtaining the test gas concentrations and also the imposed conditions in the simulation model for the purpose of the simulation. Also, in this part, was shortly presented the used simulation environment based on CFD. The third part of the paper was dedicated for the presentation of an example and to the discussions of the obtained results.
