RECONFIGURING ORGANIZATIONAL ARCHITECTURE THROUGH WORKFLOW LOGIC: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW OF STANDARDIZATION AND AUTOMATION AT THE INTERFACE OF STRUCTURE AND PROCESS
Abstract
This study examines how organizational structure and workflow/process design can be aligned in information-intensive organizations through Business Process Management, workflow standardization, digital automation, and adaptive governance. The study develops and evaluates the Adaptive Workflow–Structure Integration Model, which integrates structural standardization, digitally orchestrated workflows, and governance mechanisms into a unified socio-technical framework. The model is applied in a document-intensive organizational context characterized by fragmented workflows, limited process visibility, and unclear role allocation. The results demonstrate that aligning workflow logic with organizational structure significantly improves process transparency, coordination efficiency, role clarity, and BPM system adoption. Workflow harmonization reduces fragmentation, while real-time digital monitoring and role-based access control governance enhance accountability and operational responsiveness without compromising flexibility.
