THE SOCIAL IMPACT OF THE RESEARCH - DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITY FUNDING IN THE EUROPEAN BUILDING MATERIALS INDUSTRY
Abstract
Research is deservingly considered the one of the engines driving economy. Even in times of crisis, the economic entities that have focused on this activity have reaped its benefits, especially after the crisis had passed. Research and development is not just about finding new products, materials, etc., adopting or diversifying services, but it has taken into account the most important factor for the achievement of this activity: the human component. Without the involvement of humans in this activity, especially researchers, the results would not have been as expected. Although during the crisis the number of staff decreased, after this period new employees were hired in order to be able to meet the demands of the market. We must also not forget that during the period covered by this scientific approach certain manufacturers of construction materials have restricted their activity, have reorganized and we also have a case which was acquired by another producer, such as French producer Lafarge. However, the most important thing is that the foundation for the results achieved by all producers of construction materials in Europe is provided by humans, regardless of their training or positions held with these economic entities.
