AN ANALYSIS OF THE RENEWABLE ENERGY RESOURCES IN THE REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA
Abstract
This research focuses on the energy demand and the possibilities of covering the energy needs with renewable energy within the territory of Republic of Moldova. The evaluation of the alternative energy resources is extremely important as the Republic of Moldova mainly depends on Ukraine for imported energy. Developing new sources of energy will partially ensure the stability of the economy. The renewable energy will allow the balancing of the payments and will also strengthen, at least to a certain extent, the country?s energy security. In the context of Republic of Moldova?s intention to adhere to the EU, the paper describes the current legislation directives and the tendency to comply with the EU legislation in what concerns the renewable energy domain, including the wind and the solar energy potential. For this paper we have analysed the data registered by NASA in Chi?in?u area as follows: for the wind energy we have investigated the average monthly wind speed values for a period of 10 years and for the solar energy the average monthly direct normal radiation on Chi?in?u area for 22 years. At the moment, the most used renewable energy resource in Moldova is the biomass. However, the research has indicated that there is a high potential of solar and wind resources yet to be exploited.
