Abstract

Research conducted in INCD URBAN-INCERC, within the National Network for Seismic Monitoring and Protection of Constructed Heritage, converges towards the development of a large monitoring system, capable to allow remote identification, in a very short time after a seismic event, of possible dangerous changes in the condition of the instrumented buildings. In order to obtain correct information regarding the behavior of a structural system (due to the lack of data needed to create a reliable model), the advantages of non-destructive methods and ambient/micro-seismic vibration monitoring are used. The completion of the registered and processed data bank, from the sites where seismic sensors (free-field type, or in buildings) were installed, provides a clearer picture of the level of local accelerations, specific to different soil conditions, and of compared to the values of the accelerations in the seismic zoning map. Through the permanent seismic monitoring of a building, in the future earthquakes it will be possible to carry out advanced analyzes through which it will be possible to quickly establish if the building has suffered structural damage. Some case studies are presented, focused on achieving the connections in distinct locations, by applying the own solutions for data communication (URBAN-INCERC local system; The Cathedral of Saint Alexander and Saint Nicholas of SULINA local system; The Arnota Monastery local system; Balta Alba Block of flats etc.) and for connecting to the existing monitoring network.
