DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A PROGRAM FOR MONITORING THE STABILITY OF QUARRY EXCAVATION SLOPES IN THE ALMALA AREA

Abstract

The monitoring of open-pit slope stability is critical for safety, economic, and environmental reasons. The comprehensive approach to monitoring has been analyzed, addressing safety, economic, technological, ecological, legislative, and social responsibility aspects, ultimately contributing to sustainable mining practices. Various methods and technologies for monitoring slope stability have been determined as essential. Visual inspections are useful, but they depend on the qualifications of the observer and may overlook subtle signs of instability. Geodetic methods utilizing tachymeters and GPS have been shown to provide precise measurements of slope movements. Advanced technologies such as ground-penetrating radar enable real-time monitoring, while laser scanning facilitates the creation of detailed 3D models for analysis. Additionally, the effectiveness of vibration sensors in detecting microseismic activity has been highlighted as an important tool for early warnings of potential collapses. In this context, the GeoMoS system has been analyzed for its application in monitoring deformations in the Almaly open-pit slopes, allowing for high-precision spatial monitoring, visualization, and analysis. The objective of the paper is to illustrate how this system enables real-time visual control, enhances work efficiency, and ensures timely reporting. The integration of a variety of geodetic equipment into the GeoMoS system made it possible to achieve high measurement accuracy.
