HOW TO BUILD SUSTAINABLE, GREEN PRINTING PLANTS?
Abstract
The printer?s building and its associated operating costs are usually (after its payroll) the company?s second highest expense and a major factor in determining its environmental impact. The energy consumed in buildings is about 25-40% of final energy consumption, plus the related carbon footprint. Some printers have re-invented their working environment to improve their overall economic and environmental efficiency ? a ?lean and green? strategy. It must be recognized that the printing industry is part of an ecosystem in which climate change, pollution, extreme weather events and resource availability are issues that affect every part of the globe. For these reasons, the authors assembled this guide ? overviewed the latest publications and their own experiences - to give an overview and understanding of the main issues, and provide sources of information for those interested in the subject. They focused the specialties of modern print media technology conducted international and Hungarian case studies of printing companies that have made the transition to sustainable printing sites provide others with their experiences, motivation, benefits and key success factors, and what to avoid. The move to a more sustainable building can be driven by company re-structuring, changes to process, growth and competitive needs. Sustainable bioclimatic buildings use healthier and more resource efficient models of construction, renovation, operation, maintenance and deconstruction. They often attract incentives for sustainable building government finance, grants, and taxes. Their business benefits include: lower operating costs and higher productivity, a healthier place to work, reduced risk and consequent liability, more stable processing, higher return on investment, and future-proofed assets. The printer?s operating site is an important ?first impression? for customers and collaborators and is a factor in influencing attitude and communication.
