Abstract

The study analyses the features of the peat sediment formation and elements concentration in the 0-310 cm core sample of peat deposits based on the example of the Ubinskoye peat bog located in the Novosibirsk region, Western Siberia. The stratigraphy and distribution features of chemical elements in the vertical profile are studied. Peat layers are characterized by an increase in the content of all elements in the middle and lower core intervals, which is probably a consequence of changes in the water regime and groundwater inflow at different stages of bog development. Increased concentrations of active air migrants forming volatile compounds, such as Pb, Cd, Cu and Zn, were found, which is associated with anthropogenic load. Element specifications investigated by the modified Tessier sequential extraction procedure, showed the vertical transition of the oxidative geochemical environment to the reducing one with the formation of geochemical barriers for variably valent elements. In the middle part of the section with organic-rich woody layers, the quantity of species associated with humic substances increases to 3-7% for almost all the studied elements.
