Abstract

Changes in group chemical composition in the modification processes are not dependent just on physical and chemical characteristics of bitumen, but rather on structural features of raw material composition and its modification products. The investigation of bitumen is difficult due to formation of paraffinic, naphthenic and aromatic group combinations. The result of modification is bitumen transformation, and this phenomenon is observed by quantitative change in structural fragment content. One of the most informative and sensitive instrumental analysis method of complex mixtures is the IR spectroscopy. The spectral coefficients defined as a value of an optical density at maximum corresponding absorption band in the range of 2000пїЅ400 cm-1 were calculated (?1=D1600/D720 - aromatics, C2=D1710/D1465 - oxidation, C3=D1380/D1465 - branching, C4=(D720+D1380)/D1600 - aliphatics, C5=D1030/D1465 - sulphur). As a result, the structure and group composition of initial and modified bitumen and their fractions: paraffin-naphthenic hydrocarbons, mono-, bi-, polycyclic hydrocarbons, resins and asphaltenes are investigated. The influence of adhesive additive to bitumen and its components by IR spectroscopy is revealed.
