Abstract

The paper deals with city populationпїЅs behavior in public transportation in Olomouc City (Czech Republic) by integration and aggregation of individual characteristics and needs which are estimated on the base of statistical probability calibrated and validated by local survey data at municipality level. The survey data were used with current census data about mobility combined data from information systems of local/central governments or institutions. The questionnaire survey employed the probability sampling on the basis of address list in selected parts of the city which were formed according to demographic data with respect to type and age of housing and economic conditions. The questionnaire applied the Day Recognition Method following age, sex, employment, daily schedule, transport mode, transport preferences, issues. More than 500 respondents were addressed. Three research questions were formulated пїЅ (i) How important are pedestrian or cycling modes for usual movement in the city? (ii) Does historical city center influence the shape of public transport network and the city accessibility?, (iii) Does the behavior of the population vary by city district in strong correlation with urban function?). Statistical trends and correlations have been identified between spatial and non-spatial characteristics. Several hypothesis related to the city populationпїЅs behavior has been analyzed, verified, commented and visualized.
