MIDDLE AND UPPER JURASSIC OF DAMBOVICIOARA BASIN (ROMANIA): REGIONAL CORRELATION AND PALAEOENVIRONMENTAL RECONSTRUCTION
Abstract
The Middle and Upper Jurassic deposits develop on a large area in Dambovicioara Corridor. In this area belongs both to the “Group of the formations of Braşov” ([8], [9] redefined, emend [3]) and to the “Group of the formations of pre-Leaota” ([9], emend [3]). The group of Braşov covers strictly the area of D\^ambovicioara Basin, and the group of pre-Leaota was extended as well over the fosse Codlea-R\^aşnov-Podul D\^amboviţei and over Şinca-Piatra Craiului [3]. The facies of the two groups are different, the differentiation being made based on the distinct depositional environments of the Upper Jurassic – carbonated shelf with reefs, barriers or patch-reef in the group of Braşov and in the basin of Braşov, and, on the other hand, (deep sea) with proximal-distal turbidity and pelagites in the pre-Leaota group. The differences can be noticed at the level of the sequences, which are predominantly carbonatic, with facies separated by discordances and stratigraphic gaps of low temporal value (1-2 million years), in the first group, and proximal and distal turbiditic deposits intercalated with pelagites separated by discordances and stratigraphic gaps of low temporal value (1 million years) [3] for the second group. In this paper we reviewed and summarized palaeontological, lithostratigraphical data from the Middle and Upper Jurassic strata for palaeogeographycal reconstruction and regional correlations.
