Abstract

An ecosystem cannot be fully and effectively described simply by simple mathematical rules. Sustainability is difficult to define or measure because it is inherently vague and complex. This paper presents a neuro-fuzzy model, which uses data from different parameters to monitor and assess a certain ecosystem. If classic mathematical methods cannot provide solutions of uncertain data and treating vague situations, a possible solution to represent these conditions may be the use of neuro-fuzzy approach. Therefore, a neuro-fuzzy model has been developed that has used the principles of environmental integrity and neuro-fuzzy reasoning as basic indicators to monitor an ecosystem and ensure sustainability measures. The method can be used as a potential tool to make responsible decisions to assess or to anticipate the impact of their actions on the environment.
