SPECIALIZATION OF PRODUCTION IN TURCANA SHEEP BREED DEPENDING ON THE AVAILABILITY OF FOOD RESOURCES IN THE EXPLOITATION AREA
Abstract
Specialization of production according to existing resources and the availability of sheep involves the use of new production systems, their readaptation to the demand for raw materials and the availability of feed resources. Depending on the existence of resources and the typology of sheep farms in the research area, production systems can be specialized for producing lamb, young sheep, and sheep reconditioned on pastures, and producing milk-meat in pastoral systems through the seasonal use of alpine pastures or through silvo-grazing. These systems ensure good marketing of sheep milk and lamb meat, being the most economical at an average level of qualification of human resources, if there is an abundance of quality plant resources on pastures. Producing raw materials from sheep in integrated production systems by using the resources available in the area involves the specialization of production for the organic production of meat of the crop-animal-tree type by judicious use of plant resources and the production of resources through artificial crops in an organic system, but also the production of raw materials - milk, meat, wool - with low inputs and outputs. The specialization of production systems on raw materials according to resources should be a major permanent problem for integrated farm management and the associative farms to provide the processing industry with raw materials to ensure sufficient and quality feed resources and optimize their herds according to the needs of the sheep, being able to ensure well-managed grazing by implementing the best pasture management practices according to its type by monitoring natural environmental factors.
