Abstract

Paper presents a new process of refurbishing by metal deposition in different zones of the used parts, the refurbishment by welding in the ultrasonic field. A comparative analysis of the main defects is made, that occur in the case of welding in the protective gas comparing with the process of refolding by welding in protective gas medium with the ultrasonic activation of the additive material. In the case of the refurbishment by ultrasonic welding of used parts, the problem that concerns most is the appearance and monitoring of the pores, therefore the influence of the ultrasonic parameters on the appearance of pores was analyzed. Thus, it has been found that as the frequency of ultrasound increases, the size of the pores decreases, but their number increases in the volume unit. The way of introducing the ultrasound in the welding bath influences the appearance of the pore, and it is found that upon activation of the reconditioned part almost all the pores are transferred to the upper part of the deposited layer (or in the last layer - if deposited several layers), and in the case of ultrasonic activation of the electrode wire, the pores are higher in the upper part of the deposited layer, but also in the thermally influenced area. In all the experiments performed a very good structural homogeneity was obtained in the base material, the heat-affected area and the layers of deposited material. The duration of the ultrasound activation of the deposition process has a permanent influence on the appearance and distribution of the pores in the sense that, as the duration of the ultrasonic activation increases, almost all pores disappear from the heat-affected area and the deposited layer in the immediate vicinity, being transferred to the upper surface of the layer deposited or in the last layer, if multiple layers are deposited.
