CONSIDERATIONS ON THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF THE RURAL SETTLEMENTS IN THE SUBCARPATHIAN AREA OF DAMBOVITA VALLEY
Abstract
The favorable geographic conditions, in direct relation with the variety of the natural resources have contributed to the development of the rura l settlements and of a certain specific type of economy, in the Subcarpathian area of Dambovita Valley. The agricultural activity now holds an important role in the economy of these human settlements, a fact demonstrated both by th e proportion of the population employed in agriculture and by the land use changes. During the last decennia, the wood exploita tion and processing industry developed on the basis of the local resources, as well as the small industry through bakeries, iron processing workshops, traditional manufacturing workshops, which involve a part of the population of these human settlements. The ways of communications have had an important role in the development of the trading activities, the Valley of Dambovita being situated in the direction of the significant great commercial roads that used to connect Walachia and Transylvania.
