SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND ENERGY TRANSITION IN TURBULENT TIMES: THE CASE OF RUSSIA
Abstract
According to the Global Sustainable Development Report 2023, achieving many SDGs is becoming increasingly difficult. In conditions of turbulence and ongoing challenges for the society, increasing attention is being paid to ensuring technological sovereignty of regions and countries. Countries with advanced technologies have advantages, among which energy supply technologies occupy a special place. The type and quality of energy sources is of particular importance. The energy complex and its resource supply, as well as everything related to the production and consumption of electricity, play a major role in this regard. The transportation is of great importance as well. The purpose of the paper is to consider some promising areas that contribute to the energy transition and to evaluate their benefits. In particular, attention is being paid to energy storage devices, which can solve problems hampering the development of RES and use of electric cars. Some measures are proposed to increase the attractiveness of electric cars for consumers and manufacturers. The proposed study could be of interest for policymakers in other countries to develop some measures promoting energy transition.
