DEVELOPMENT OF GEOTURISM AND MINING HERITAGE ON THE EXAMPLES OF SLOVAK OPAL MINES AND OIL MINE BOBRKA
Abstract
The paper presents development of Geotourism and associated mining heritage on a unique example of two mining sites пїЅ the oldest mine in the world for mining opal above the village of ?ervenica (Slovakia) and the oldest mine in the world for oil in BпїЅbrka (Poland). Both sites have rich mining past, which they want to use for the development of tourism. Based on the visits, structure of services and development plans, we speak in terms of tourism development on two different sites, even though the distance between them is only 120 km. For Slovak Opal Mines (in Slovak SlovenskпїЅ opпїЅlovпїЅ bane) it is a new activity in the field of Geotourism since 2016 was only the first season of operation (with 12 thousand visitors). In addition to these activities, there has been restored opal mining and processing for the needs of jewelry design. Active work in underground spaces allows mapping and making other mining horizons (and flooded) and the expanding of existing guided tour. On the other hand, activities of Geotourism in a functioning Oil Mine BпїЅbrka (in Polish Muzeum Przemys?u Naftowego i Gazowniczego w BпїЅbrce) have a long tradition (since 1961). Range of activities includes guided tour, professional lectures, film screenings and accompanying entertainment events. An average annual traffic is around 27 thousand visitors. Oil Mine BпїЅbrka is since 2014 part of the cross-border tourist route Geo-Carpathians.
