Abstract

The paper examines the theoretical and experimental issues of formation of protective areas (biogroups) that allow preserving trees of scientific or historical value during intermediate felling. As a result of experimental studies, mapping and estimation of reserved and felled trees are carried out on 10 sample sites, in which intermediate felling was performed and which have similar characteristics. For the analysis of the spatial structure of stands, electronic maps for plots of 1200 m2 are made in the GIS Map and the need for dividing each of them into plots of 200 m2 is justified. For all plots quality matrices are formed according to the estimations of trees before and after intermediate felling. When forming quality matrices, depending on estimations of trees, contour intervals and the minimum distance between them equal to 10 cm in diameter and 10 m in height, are determined. Based on the analysis of quality matrices, we justify the formation of tree biogroups of I, II and III growth classes according to the classification by G. Kraft when the contours are more than 20 cm in diameter and 20 m in height. As a result of combining maps of contours of plots with an area of 1200 m2 and 200 m2, the formation of 40 % of imaginary biogroups on plots with a larger area is revealed. Based on a comparative analysis of the location, number, and composition of remotely formed biogroups on plots of 200 m2 with biogroups allocated during geodetic surveys, we justify the use of GIS technologies for the formation of a tree biogroup around a valuable tree and for the assessment of the quality of intermediate felling. As a result of statistical modeling, the regularities of changes in the area of biogroups depending on the biogroup perimeter and form factors are revealed. It is also revealed that the factor that most influences the area is an absolute biogroup form factor.
