Abstract

For energy-efficient houses, it is necessary to design a suitable thermal insulation of the building envelope. One of the most problematic areas of the single-layer masonry walls is the plinth. It is the first layer of masonry wall on the foundation structure. The requirements of architects and structural engineers for plinth solutions are often in contradiction. Passive houses belong to the category of buildings that have very low energy consumption for heating of buildings [1]. However, their overall energy performance, from the design point of view, is affected by a number of indicators, including: structural design solutions at the system boundary of the building and their composition (eg. wooden buildings, brick buildings, etc.) [2], the types of materials used for construction at the building system boundary (eg. thermal insulation based on plastics, based on natural materials, etc.), the thickness of the materials used for construction of the building at the system boundary and types of fillings of apertures in the envelope and not the least solutions of thermal bonds in the form of contacts between the various structural components of the building at building boundary system. The issue of this paper is devoted to the substructure. The substructure is part of the building, which is in direct contact with soil. The paper deals with two variants of a single-layer thermally insulating masonry wall. One variant solves the problem of the plinth without additional thermal insulation. The second variant solves the problem of the plinth with additional thermal insulation. The plinth solution is made for an energy-efficient house in terms of thermal engineering and statics.
