Abstract

Steel constructions and their structural elements are significantly vulnerable to high temperatures which may be caused, for example, by fire. For this reason, investigations of the thermal load of building structures bear indisputable social importance and considerable practical coverage in the security design of critical infrastructures, as well as in the protection of persons and members of intervening security forces. The application of new knowledge when dealing with emergency situations and investigating their causes, or when establishing security precautions, is especially important. When assessing the fire resistance of steel constructions, it is fundamentally important to specify the magnitude of the effect of fire and the subsequent analysis of the temperature distribution in individual sections of the structural elements. Within the scope of this paper, the heat transfer parameters of selected structural elements with different shapes and cross-sectional dimensions will be determined by experimental procedures. The structural elements will be primarily loaded by the radiation component of the heat source. Changes in the thermal field of the structural elements will be recorded by contact and non-contact methods. A detailed knowledge of heat sharing in steel constructions can lead to an improvement in the design of these types of constructions against the effects of fire.
