BUILDING MULTILINGUAL ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION PLATFORMS: INTEGRATING TRANSLATION TECHNOLOGIES WITH CURRICULUM DESIGN
Abstract
The intersection of environmental education and multilingual communication presents urgent challenges as climate change and ecological degradation demand global awareness and action. This article examines the design, development, and implementation of multilingual environmental education platforms that strategically integrate translation technologies with curriculum design. Drawing on interdisciplinary frameworks from translation studies, educational technology, and environmental science pedagogy, we propose a comprehensive model for creating scalable, linguistically inclusive educational resources. The study analyzes current machine translation capabilities, neural MT advancements, and computer-assisted translation tools in relation to the specific terminological and conceptual demands of environmental science content. We identify critical considerations including terminology management for specialized ecological concepts, cultural adaptation of environmental examples, and quality assurance mechanisms for translated educational materials. Through case studies of existing multilingual platforms and original research on user comprehension across languages, we demonstrate that effective integration requires collaboration between environmental educators, translators, and platform developers from the earliest design stages. Key findings indicate that hybrid approaches combining automated translation with expert human post-editing yield optimal results for educational contexts, while adaptive learning technologies can personalize content delivery across linguistic backgrounds. The article concludes with practical recommendations for platform developers, curriculum designers, and policymakers seeking to expand access to environmental education through strategic technology integration.
