Abstract

The quality and safety of constructions are fundamental requirements that must be ensured starting with the elaboration of the feasibility study until the post-use stage of construction and they are major concerns both of those who contribute to their realization, and of the beneficiaries or users. Due to the advantages of metal constructions, the elements from metal structure are used as structural elements of the construction, they can be used in a wide range of constructions and also, they can be parts for another strength elements. One of the methods of joining the metallic elements are the welded joints, that once completed, become concealed works. According to the theoretical researches, the works that become concealed represents one of the most important sources of risk in terms of quality of welded joints, implicitly the quality of the final construction. The objective of the experimental researches was to highlight the importance of identifying and establishing limit values of critical control points on the execution flow of the concealed works in order to prevent or reduce risks to an acceptable level so that the final product, the welded joints, meets the requirements imposed as fundamentals conditions of resistance, stability and quality. The methodology of the report consisted in carrying out experiments in an authorized laboratory that analyzed the quality level of the welded joints, experiments that were based taking into account a series of critical control points. Following experimental research in accordance with the risk analysis generated by concealed works associated with welded joints, it has been proven that implementing and following a monitoring plan specific to these type of concealed works is essential to improve and easily monitor critical control points that can negatively influence the quality characteristics of the construction elements. The main conclusions of these theoretical and experimental researches associated with the analysis of the risks generated by welded joints may be implemented and applied with success in order to fulfill and to improve the performance indicators regarding the fulfillment of the imposed quality requirements.
