Abstract

The paper presents observations of solution of the sustainable forestry problem in terms of the Arkhangelsk region. One of the sustainable forestry guidelines is appropriate restraining of the forest harvesting. The volumes of logging in the Arkhangelsk region constitute about half of the allowable wood removal. One of the reasons of the harvesting volumes insufficiency is low density of forest roads network, therefore the accessible areas alongside the existing roads are depleted. The forest roads network should be expanded, but it cannot be put in practice within a short period. The untouched wood stands can be accessed, on the authors? opinion, by virtue of the extension of the logistic technologies of the round wood along the natural transport links ? the rivers. The economically preferable method this day is floating of the rafting units. In present time the small- and medium-scale rivers are virtually unused for timber haulage due to insufficient dimensions of floating routes. In order to integrate those rivers into the logistic system, the systems of the technologies of timber bundling have to be optimized, The article analyses the technique of the experimental study of the hydrodynamic parameters of the small draft rafting units which are applicable at the unfree shallow waters. The results of the complete factorial experiment for determination of the rafting units total hydrodynamic resistance are examined. Regression analysis of impact of a rafting unit dimensions on corresponding water resistance was carried out.
