Abstract

The certification requirements for electrical equipment used in potentially explosive environments are outlined in EU Directive 2014/34. In order to certify electrical equipment used in potentially explosive environments, the EU has set requirements. Certification and compliance requirements are outlined in EU Directive 2014/34. All electrical equipment used in potentially explosive environments must abide by this guideline. Electrical equipment makers and their authorized representatives are subject to the directive. The regulation lays forth the safety standards that electrical equipment needs to fulfill in order to be approved for use in potentially explosive environments. According to the directive, there are three categories of potentially explosive atmospheres: Zone 0, Zone 1, and Zone 2. The rule also specifies how electrical equipment that has been approved for use in potentially explosive environments must be marked. Testing to make sure the equipment satisfies safety regulations is a necessary step in the certification process for electrical equipment. Testing is carried out by accredited testing facilities. The appropriate national accrediting agencies have granted testing laboratories their accreditation. The testing labs adhere to the guidelines provided in the electrical equipment testing directive. Equipment for electrical, mechanical, and thermal safety is tested as part of the testing process. The equipment's capacity to stop potentially explosive environments from igniting is also being tested.
