IMPROVEMENT OF THE GEOMETRIC FOUNDATION FOR SPATIAL DATA INFRASTRUCTURE
Abstract
Homogenization and geometric accuracy improvement of the heterogeneous geospatial data is possible by means of application of the adaptive transformation model and transformation model based on the radial basis functions. This can be achieved if the transformation models are based on a sufficient number of the adequate identical points that contain reliable information on the non-uniform and irregularly distributed positional distortions. Accuracy of the transformation final results depends on the choice of the transformation model, and in particular on the selection of identical points. A detailed analysis of the geospatial data geometric distortion causes was conducted in this research as well as the evaluation of the different methods of geometric transformations with purpose to remove the positional distortions from spatial data. Another objective of the research was to investigate current standards for evaluating positional accuracy of geospatial information and choose the most appropriate standards for Bosnia and Herzegovina. Based on the results of extensive analysis of the cadastral maps, a methodology for improving the geospatial databases geometric content quality has been developed with an aim to improve the overall geometric accuracy of the existing spatial data infrastructure at the local and national level.
