STUDY OF THE INFLUENCE FACTORS FOR QUALITY ASSURANCE OF DETERMINATION TEST OF THE DRUM FRICTION FOR CONVEYOR BELTS
Abstract
Conveyor belts are used for a long period of time in the industry branches where potentially explosive atmospheres could occur. The use of conveyor belts in industrial spaces with danger of explosive atmospheres, implies fulfilling by these of certain safety requirements, in order to prevent the ignition sources of explosive atmospheres. The need to provide the highest level of protection in the industrial spaces with danger of explosive atmospheres led, on the one hand, to the use of conveyor belts with adequate properties of protection against ignition sources on the other hand, to the development of test methods of these conveyor belts for the purpose of assessing compliance with the requirements specific to prevent the initiation of explosive atmospheres. The assessment of the conformity of the conveyor belts with the safety requirements specific to the Ex., domain, is based on the analysis of characteristic parameters for protection against ignition sources, such as, for example, a flame generated by the blocking of a conveyor belt during operation, as a result of the friction between the conveyor belt and the drive drum, the parameters that are determined by laboratory tests. The accuracy of the results obtained needed for the conformity assessment process depends on a number of factors such as the microclimate conditions (temperature, relative humidity) in which testing is carried out, but also the exactness of the application of the test method (s) by the personnel involved. Therefore, the paper aims at identifying the influence factors regarding to assuring the quality of the tests for the determination of the drum friction for conveyor belts in order to obtain the most accurate results. Assurance of tests quality is a requirement imposed by the standard EN ISO/IEC 17025 for the accreditation of testing laboratories.
