Abstract

Into this paper there are presented physical and mechanical properties of control samples from self-compacting concrete realized with fly ash and silica fume (like powders) and superplasticizer. The slump of fresh self-compacting concrete was 680 mm, L-box h1/h2=0.92 and V-funnel = 12 sec. There were realized prismatic samples with dimensions 10 x 10 x 30 cm. The control samples were kept into laboratory curing conditions. The testing ages were at 28 days and 9 years. At 28 days age, the compressive strengths on prism were over 50 N/mm2, the apparent density was around 2300 kg/m3. At 9 years age, the compressive strengths on prism were 56 N/mm2, the apparent density was around 2180 kg/m3. The bending tensile strength was decreasing from 8.3 N/mm2 to 6.8 N/mm2. After nine years, the control sample doesnпїЅt have visible micro cracks. The fly ash used is an industrial waste from Timisoara Heating Plant (Romania). The fly ash is a fine-grained powdery particulate material produced from the burning of powder coal in a fired boiler. By using to obtain self-compacting concrete will help by grain size granulometry and hydraulics activity. The silica fume was imported from E.U. country and was produced in China. This Sustainability index refers to three components of the sustainability dimensions ecological (by E=energy), economic (by C=cost) and social (by fc=compressive strengths) have values around 0.825 for ordinary concrete C40/50, around 0.869 for self-compacting concretes and 1.000 for ideal concrete class.
